Food for guns program has big haul
The National Police collected a total of 295 firearms in the early stages of a food-for-guns program in Panama City during August.
The program to remove illegal guns from the streetstarted in El Chorrillo and Where 153 weapons were handed in. The second phase in Tocumen, netted 142 weapons..
The third phase of the program started today on Wednesday August 18 at the evangelical church Faith Tabernacle in Juan Díaz, and continues Thursday, Aug. 19, at the San Juan Bosco Catholic church in Pedregal.
The food-for-guns program, an initiative by the Governor’s Office of Panama, allows for the exchange of illegal weapons and ammunition – with no questions asked – for supermarket vouchers.
