Accused minister files slander suit against fired whistle blower
A new twist in the case of a public servant whistle blower, over goods purchased by a ministerial department at grossly inflated prices came when
Minister of Social Development Guillermo Ferrufino filed a complaint against the former director of finance and social policy for the ministry, Gustavo Barahona, for slander and breach of his duties as a public servant.
"Barahona has committed an act of corruption by trying to extort me," Ferrufino said. "We will not allow this."
The minister went to the Public Ministry with his lawyer Alejandro Perez.
The suit came a day after Barahona presented a complaint of his own alleging that ministry staff made irregular purchases using money for the "$100 for 70" program.
Barahona also filed a complaint last week alleging Ferrufino had misused funds. After blowing the whistle he was fired. {jathumbnail off}
