Panama scores high on Interpol most wanted list
Thirty five Panamanians are on the "most wanted" list of international criminals sought by Interpol, but its closest neighbors, are ahead on the crime dishonor role.
Costa Rica has 44 people on the list and Colombia 160.
The 364 long list is headed by Osama Bin Laden, of the Al Qaeda terrorist network. Of the Panamanians on the list, 32 are men and three are women. Says La Prensa.
Eighteen of the suspects are wanted on murder charges. Other offenses include international drug trafficking, smuggling, trafficking and illegal immigration-related crimes, weapons charges, theft, money laundering, kidnapping, organized crime and sexual offenses
One of the people on the list is former military dictator Manuel Noriega, who is wanted in Panama for murder. He is currently in custody in Paris where he has been sentenced to seven years in jail on money laundering charges.
Also on the list is former military officer Evidelio Quiel, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in the Albrook massacre. Quiel was arrested in San José, Costa Rica in 2005, but months later was released because authorities there denied extradition on the grounds that the trial and sentencing occurred in his absence.
Another person on the list, Frank Luzer Pardo, who is wanted for murder in Panama, has been held in Mexico since the end of last year on murder and drug charges.
