Jaw jaw will replace war war in revision of Law 30 articles
Panama’s Cabinet moved swiftly on Tuesday evening (July 13) to approve a resolution to create a special commission to negotiate the revision of Articles 12, 13 and 14 of Law No. 30 of 2010.
A press release said the commission, with a broad outreach,representing many interests, is being created to satisfy the “Changuinola Agreement” which followed the killing of up to six strikers and the hospitalizing of scores more in violent confrontations with police over 10 days in Bocas del Toro
The special committee for a roundtable dialogue will be composed of representatives of the Executive Body, a priest, a minister , and member of the National Confederation of Independent Trade Unions, Unity.
The committee also will have representatives of the Banana Industry Workers Union and Allied Workers National Council of Organized Workers, the Chamber of Commerce, the National Council of Private Enterprise and the Ecumenical Committee.
It will also invited a representative from each of the parties in the National Assembly and the Syndicate of Industrialists of Panama.
Also participating will be the Executive Secretary of the Council of the National Coalition for Development, the President of the National Assembly and a facilitator appointed by the Executive Body. The facilitator will have wide experience in negotiation processes, and will have right to speak, but not to vote.
No mention was made of representatives of Citizen’s groups who have voiced concerns about the environment, and the easing of controls on mining development.
