Martinelli backs away from planned World Cup jaunt

Hours after he had announced that he was leaving the country with family and selected friends for a weekend trip to the World Cup final in South Africa, President Ricardo Martinelli changed his plans.

With the country embroiled in protests and demonstrations, the planned presidential jaunt  led to widespread critical commentary
Martinelli has planned to go to the game as late as Thursday night, but decided to cancel the trip in light of the protests that have been organized across the country in opposition to government policies.
A spokesman said that due to the civil unrest in the country, the trip was canceled.
