Panama license blitz nets ticket violators and errant drivers
If you are sitting with an unpaid traffic fine watch out as traffic rule “enforcement” has finally become the flavor of the day for The National Police.
They reported that on Monday 25 driver’s licenses were held because the drivers were in contempt for failure to pay traffic tickets.
According to a press release from the police, the 25 drivers were caught driving when in default with traffic tickets.
In one case a driver with a license that expired in 2008, and who had a total of 16 unpaid fines,
In addition, to the confiscating of licences another 22 fines were imposed for various traffic infractions.
The new tickets were issued to drivers who were detected committing a traffic offense, like driving with expired plates, improper turning, flat tires and not wearing a seat belt.
The operation, which was executed by members of the Traffic Operations Division (DOT) of the Police, and caused numerous traffic hold ups, was part of an on going blitz on the roads of Panama, San Miguelito, and La Chorrera and Arraiján.
Teofilo Moreno Deputy Commissioner of the DOT, said that these actions are permanent and are not only to detect drivers in contempt, but also to prevent negligence that could cause traffic accidents.
