Stand by for the long crawl home

If you are still in Panama wondering at the emptiness of the streets with traffic flowing as freely as during Carnaval, it’s because of the 82,000 vehicles that left the city before noon on Saturday.
If you are one of the ones sweating it our on the beaches, and facing the drive back on Sunday, the Transit Authority (ATTT) has offered a measure of relief. Sartin at 10 a.m. Sunday, the traffic lanes on some roads between La Chorrera and Arraijan will be reversed to try to avoid bottlenecks
The ATTT the change will start at La Es`piga in Chorrera to where the road forks for the Centennial Bridge and the Panama Arraijan Highway.
But don’t count your Easter eggs in advance. There are likely to be long waits, even if there are no accidents, including those involving pedestrians.
The ATTT has warned people living near the highways, reminding them that by law they cannot walk on the shoulders of highways. A pedestrian was killed recently on Corridor Sur.
