Ex presidents house arrest lifted but writ server rained on the party
Former President Ernesto Perez Balladares, who has spent 75 days under house arrest is now at liberty to travel the country freely.
Still facing charges of money laundering, he cannot leave the country without permission from a competent authority.
The decision came from the special prosecutor against organized crime, Jose Ayu Prado, who on Jan. 14 ordered house arrest and confiscated the ex-president’s passport.
Perez Balladares is being investigated for his links with Shelf Holding Inc., a company which used to get regular funds from a casino company granted a license from his government while he was in office.
The ex president got the news during a visit to the prosecutor’s office and returned home, to receive congratulatory visits from friends, family and fellow party members.
