Panamas King Midas in reverse creating free fall records
Panama’s mayor Bosco Vallarino, like a character from Oliver Twist keeps Bumbling along.
The latest missstep to raise the ire of government, the public and the media is the state of the public Sea Food Market.
In an editorial on January 12 La Prensa wrote:
“The Seafood Market, which is administered by the Municipality of Panama, had spent years giving good service to the capital in a neat and tidy manner… until this administration took over its operation. With our new mayor, who is King Midas in reverse, it has become a smelly, full of flies on the eve of Lent, when customer traffic increases.
“Its administrators claim that is a budget problem, which is inconceivable, after the adoption of the biggest budget in the history of the municipality. So the appalling problem of waste, unclear accounts of a municipal Christmas which had to be great for the folly of trying to break a Guinness record, the idea of buying pools amid a shortage of water, the destruction and restoration of City Hall, join the negligence of ruining one of the jewels of the Municipality.
“The mayor does not seem to learn from his mistakes. They are becoming more and worse. If you are looking to break records, count his lack of success with every word, action or omission. No one beats that.”
