CD caucus plans Cortes ousting
Dissenting members of the CD legislative caucus want the head of the party’s acting president Alma Cortes.
The beleaguered former Martinelli cabinet Minister has other problems on her plate as she is facing corruption charges for her time in office.
Wednesday met with party leaders with a view to initiating the reunification and reorganization of the group prior to the 2019 election.
However, as a first step to initiate this process, the deputies proposed that the national board overturn a December 2015 decision appointing Alma Cortés as acting president of the party.
Among the party leaders attending the meeting were Secretary General Romulo Roux, Treasurer Frank De Lima, Vice President Aníbal Galindo and others. They were invited to the meeting by Deputy Dana Catañeda.
Roux said the main purpose of the meeting was to have an open agenda and discuss different topics aimed at seeking party unity. Cortés, who has had some verbal clashes with some members of the caucus, was not invited.
Castañeda leads a group of 16 dissident deputies who have defied orders by former president and party founder Ricardo Martinelli.
