A Panamanian priest became the latest victim of Ortega’s crackdown on dissent.  In a phone interview with TVN Noticias, Father Donaciano Alarcón,  who was carrying out his mission in Cusmapa, Nicaragua recounted that police took him out of a Palm Sunday mass, put him in a patrol car took him to the border, with Honduras, and told him that he was out of the country and could not return to Nicaragua.

The Nicaraguan police are guarding chapels to avoid processions during Holy Week.

Recently, the Bishop of Matagalpa, Rolando Álvarez, was sentenced to 26 years in prison, after refusing to be deported to the United States with a group of Nicaraguans, including released political prisoners.

In addition, religious universities and other entities of the Catholic Church have been closed.

Earlier, Panorama Católico on its Twitter account reported the fact that was initially confirmed by the Claretian Community in Panama.

“ They left him barefoot on the border with Honduras,” Panorama Católico highlighted on Twitter. The priest is in the neighboring city, San Marcos de Colón, in Honduras.
