Hospital neurosurgery wing closed as virus hits 19 medical staff
The Neurosurgery wing of the Arnulfo Arias Madrid CSS Hospital Complex has been closed after 19 health workers,-doctors, nurses, and technicians- and a patient tested positive for Covid-19, in addition to a patient.
The coordinator of Nosocomial Diseases of the Social Security Fund (CSS) , Gladys Guerrero, said that they established a “sanitary fence in the wing,” that is, to close it so that no other person enters, but is transferred to another area of the hospital center if neurosurgery care is required.
The Neurosurgery wing has 45 patients.
The director of the Complex, Franklin Espino, explained said that the decision to close the Neurosurgery room does not affect in any way the care offered to this type of patient.
They have other surgical and clinical areas that are free pf Covid-19, so a patient needs some urgent care, they provide it to them
“If a neurosurgery patient undergoes surgery, they can be placed in other surgery areas ” said Espino.
Espino reiterated that the closure of this room does not “stop” the operation at all, because they are prepared for any eventuality.
On the other hand, he indicated that at no time will the room be turned into Covid-19 care, because positive officials will be sent home to quarantine and infected patients will be transferred to a Covid-19 care area.
