Panama exceeds China with Covid-19 cases as retransmission falls.

With an average of 892 new infections per day, Panama has accumulated until has, 88, 485 cases of  COVID-19 since the beginning of the outbreak in  March. and surpassed China, which has 84,981 confirmed cases.

Deaths from the virus have reached 1,919.

Meanwhile the retransmission rate  (Rt),  is at  0.94 bringing it below 0.99 for the third successive week.

In the last six weeks, deaths from Covid-19 in the Americas have more than doubled, and countries seem to be going in the opposite direction to what the data shows, said Carissa Etienne, the director of the Pan American Organization of the Health (PAHO).

During a  virtual conference on Tuesday, Etienne said that, in too many places, there seems to be a disconnect between the policies that are being implemented and what the chart says with an upward trend of epidemiological curves.
