Doctor dies as overstretched staff battle virus

 A day after the Panama Nurses Association announced the death from Covid-19 of a fourth nurse, the staff at  Hospital Santo Tomás (HST)on Thursday, October 15  attended the funeral of  Dr. Fanor Cabrera,44, who died in the middle of the COVID-19 fight.

The doctor was an Embera Indian from Darien. Who earned a scholarship to study abroad.

Nicolás García, a doctor at the HST, said that all health personnel are overstretched facing a pandemic that is “more active than ever.”

He said that many doctors, nurses, and technologists go 24 hours without sleep.
