Active covid cases fall 38% in a month

Active cases of covid-19 have fallen by 38 percent in the last month reports the  Ministry of Health (Minsa). At  the beginning of January, the number of active cases was 55,000, while at the beginning of this month it was around 34,000 which for epidemiologists is a good indicator.

On Wednesday the Minsa reported 1,181 new positive cases, for a cumulative total of 323,382, and  26 new deaths bringing the total  to 5,366

According to statistical reports from the (Minsa) currently, 91% of these active cases are isolated in their homes and the rest in hotels.

Public Health, specialist Jorge Luis Prosperi, said that the reduction in cases means that the epidemic is being controlled for the moment and hat the quarantine did work.

“People did not go out and the population is becoming aware,” he said

The specialist reiterated that right now the underlying problem in the pandemic is to continue vaccinating quickly.

Despite the fact that the number of tests has been lowered, the Minsa indicated that Panama is the third country in the region with the best diagnostic capacity after the United States and Chile per million inhabitants, which allows detecting a greater number of positive patients, their contacts and performs health interventions.

In this context, he stated that the cases of recovered in the world stand at 55.6%, while in the country the percentage is much higher, reaching 87.61%.

Worldwide, active cases are at 42.2%, while in Panama they reach 10.74%.
