Cobre Panamá Boosts Employment in the Country.

Very recently, 50 additional people started working at Cobre Panamá, joining the workforce of Panamanians who are currently employed in the maintenance and conservation areas. With these ongoing hiring efforts, Cobre Panamá is contributing to the employment needed to strengthen the country’s economy. The company clarified that this active recruitment drive, which included adding hundreds of new hires, does not represent a full reactivation of mining operations.  Rather it focuses on ensuring environmental safety, site security, and regulatory compliance.

At the training center in Penonomé, Coclé province, the new employees were able to familiarize themselves with the company’s values, as well as with safety regulations and the different tasks they will perform. Karol Navarro, Human Resources Officer, explained that these hires are for different departments such as engineering, field support, and maintenance. She added that not only will people living near the mining project benefit, but also those from other areas of the country, such as Colón, Bocas del Toro, Panama, Veraguas, and Coclé.

“This is very important for the economy. We know the situation the country is going through, and these people who are coming in today have the opportunity to get a job,” said Navarro. Currently, there are about 3,500 people working at Cobre Panamá, and Karol Navarro stated that professionals from all fields will be required, in addition to technicians and general helpers.
