280 Panama Complaints Filed Against Real Estate Companies were Sent to ACODECO for More than $13.2 Million.

The Consumer Protection and Competition Defense Authority (ACODECO) reported that, between January and August 2026, it received 280 complaints against real estate companies nationwide, for a total amount claimed of $13,239,348.37.  Claims for hidden defects, which correspond to defects or problems that the purchased item presents and that are not visible or evident at the time of purchase or delivery, reached an amount of $3,149,981.70. 

Refunds were the Top Complaints Against Real Estate Agencies.

Refunds were the most frequent reason for claims, with 146 cases and $3,053,897.06 in amounts claimed. This was followed by:

• Warranty breach: 39 complaints for $2,245,739.53.
• Lack of information: 21 cases for $1,672,544.79.
• Breach of contract: 20 complaints for $1,473,360.78.
• Abusive clause: 14 claims for $1,470,637.19.

According to reports from the Conciliation, Complaints Decision and Public Defender departments, 182 cases concluded with favorable results for consumers, for a total of $8,727,483.52.  Of that total, 95 cases were resolved through agreements between the parties, for an amount of $5,017,564.49, while the Public Defender’s Office reported seven rulings in favor of the consumer, equivalent to $452,961.05.
