Panama under Water with Rain and Thunderstorms Beyond September 15.

The Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology of Panama recommends that the population remain attentive to the evolution of weather conditions. Panama under watch for rain and thunderstorms until September 15.

The Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology of Panama (Imhpa) maintains a watch alert for the possibility of rain and thunderstorms in different parts of the country.  The alert will remain in effect until 11:59 pm on Tuesday, September 15, due to atmospheric conditions that favor the development of rainfall of varying intensity.

What Conditions Does the Imhpa Foresee?

According to the institute, the presence of atmospheric instability in several areas of the national territory could generate episodes of rain accompanied by electrical activity.  Some of these conditions could reach significant intensity and be accompanied by gusts of wind, so caution is advised during periods of peak activity.

These are the Main Risks.

The weather scenario can also increase the possibility of incidents associated with water accumulation and river behavior.  Among the situations that could arise are:

  • Floods.
  • Landslides.
  • Flash floods of rivers.
  • River flooding.
  • Gusts of wind.
  • Falling trees or objects.

Recommendation in Case of Rain.

The IMHPA recommends that the population remain attentive to the evolution of weather conditions and take precautionary measures, especially in areas susceptible to flooding, landslides or river overflows.  The warning will remain in effect until the night of September 15, a period during which atmospheric conditions could favor new episodes of rain and thunderstorms.
