The National Council of Private Enterprise (Conep) sitting in permanent session has called on the National Government to “face the situation”, regarding the closures and demonstrations that have raged for a week, in several provinces in rejection of the mining contract.

The union asks the government to communicate with citizens fluidly and understand ” that it must make changes to its governance model .”

In addition, it urges that the constitutional thread and legality be followed. “No solution that deviates from the National Constitution or the laws is acceptable .”

Meanwhile, it requests that the demands be resolved expeditiously, impartially, and transparently, discuss a new Mining Code, and at the same time open the debate on mining in the country.

Conep called for calm, to strengthen democracy, respect the right to democratic demonstration, and prevent productive activity and citizen coexistence from being further affected.

They announced that they are in permanent session due to the reality that the country is experiencing.

They express their concern about the effects on the country’s productive sector and the difficulties in distribution, but, above all, the impact on citizen coexistence.

The government has stated on several occasions that the new mining contract is better than the previous one, it will offer contributions to the Disability, Old Age, and Death Program of the Social Security Fund , in addition to complying with environmental measures.
