Panama and Colombia Welcome Ecuador as it Joins the Electrical Interconnection Project.

Ecuador will join the international electrical interconnection project initiated by Panama and Colombia; it was announced this Friday, September 4, after the meeting held by Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino and his Ecuadorian counterpart Daniel Noboa. The bilateral meeting took place in the city of Guayaquil and included the telephone participation of the President of Colombia, Abelardo de la Espriella pictured below, who supported the initiative, the Presidency of the Republic of Panama reported in a statement. In addition, Mulino and Noboa discussed the possibility of expanding bilateral markets through official negotiations for a Partial Scope Agreement and more cooperation to combat organized crime and drug trafficking.
With regard to security in the region, both presidents highlighted the strategic importance of strengthening cooperation and coordinating efforts at the bilateral and regional levels to decisively confront the threats posed by transnational organized crime, particularly its networks and activities linked to drug trafficking, and to protect the security, stability and well-being of their societies. Mulino and Noboa agreed to promote orderly, regular and safe human mobility, which will be strengthened with the signing of the Inter-Institutional Agreement for the Exchange of Migration Information between the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Ecuador and the Ministry of Public Security of Panama.
