On Thursday, August 27, Bill 226, which amends legislation regarding benefits for retirees, pensioners, and senior citizens, was approved in its third reading. The initiative increases the discount on medication purchases to 30%. In addition, a 15% discount is included at private laboratories, imaging centers, and other healthcare facilities. The discount on the drinking water rate will be 30%, provided that monthly consumption does not exceed $30.00. This same percentage will apply to residential internet service, provided that the contract rate does not exceed $50.00.
The project also establishes new discounts on the purchase of medical and personal supplies, such as disposable diapers, wheelchairs, crutches, canes and walkers. Likewise, the amendment to Article 6 of the original law establishes that these discounts will be 100% deductible as a tax credit for income tax, allowing taxpayers to offset the tax corresponding to the fiscal period in which they are generated. To become law of the Republic, the proposal must be sanctioned by the President of the Republic.
The Legislative Plenary approved, in third debate, Bill No. 226; which modifies and adds articles to the Law of June 6, 1987, on benefits for retirees, pensioners, and the elderly, and enacts other provisions.
