Panama President Mulino Issues a Warning from the Darien and Reinforces Senafront with Equipment Worth $785,000
Mulino delivered equipment worth more than $785,000 to Senafront and ordered increased patrols on the border with Colombia to combat crime.
The President of the Republic, José Raúl Mulino, delivered equipment and supplies worth $785,656.89 to the National Border Service (Senafront) and ordered increased surveillance on the border between Panama and Colombia to prevent criminal groups from entering the national territory. The delivery took place during the Expanded Cabinet Council in Tortí, Chepo, where the president reiterated that the remote areas of Darién are also part of the national security strategy.
What Equipment did Senafront Receive?
The investment includes equipment intended to improve the mobility, surveillance, protection and response capacity of the units deployed in East Panama and the border areas. The items delivered include:
- Pick-up type vehicles.
- Motorcycles.
- Drones.
- Uniforms.
- Boots.
- Reflective vests.
- Tactical backpacks.
Mulino highlighted the work of the security agencies and reiterated his support for Senafront in operations to control the border and prevent the entry of armed groups and criminal organizations from Colombia.
Mulino Orders Increased Border Patrols.
The president explained that he had given instructions about three weeks ago to increase patrols in the border area. According to Mulino, the measure seeks to prevent the entry into Panama of members of groups that operate in Colombian territory.
“We already experienced and suffered the interference and takeover of our territory a few years ago by these groups,” the president said, insisting on the need to prevent these actors from crossing into Panamanian territory.
Senafront Reports Reduction in Homicides in East Panama.
During the activity, the general director of Senafront, Larry Solís Velásquez, presented the results of the Third Panama East Brigade. According to the figures presented, homicides in their area of responsibility went from 14 cases in 2025 to one in 2026, while an increase in arrests and operational actions was also reported. The institution also reported on projects to expand its presence in the region by building new facilities in Higueronal and Piriatí.
Senafront will Strengthen the Fight Against Livestock Theft.
Solís also highlighted the actions against livestock theft, which include land and river patrols, checkpoints, intelligence work, analysis and coordination with producers and communities. The strategy seeks to strengthen territorial control and the presence of the State, as well as improve the response of security units in East Panama.
