Santa Eduviges in Panama Saw Five Suspected Gang Members Get Arrested.

Five people were apprehended during Operation Combat 2, carried out in different parts of Santa Eduviges, a district of Tocumen, for their alleged involvement in gang-related crimes, the Public Ministry reported.  The investigations were carried out by the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Crimes of Illicit Association (Gangism), in conjunction with the Directorate of Judicial Investigation (DIJ) and the National Directorate of Police Intelligence. 

According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, those arrested were linked to a structure that maintained territorial control in the sector and were involved in alleged crimes such as homicide, drug-related crimes, robberies, thefts, and possession of firearms.  The investigation into the alleged gang began on March 6, 2023, and this represents the second phase of Operation Combat.  Soon, those arrested will be presented before a Court of Guarantees for the legalization of the arrests, the formal charging of offenses and the request for the corresponding precautionary measures.
