Trade and Security are the Topics that will be Discussed when President Mulino Meets with Claudia Sheinbaum in Mexico

Mulino’s agenda includes a meeting with representatives of 23 Mexican companies interested in expanding their operations in Panama.

President José Raúl Mulino will travel to Mexico this Tuesday to meet with his counterpart, Claudia Sheinbaum, and advance the bilateral agenda on trade, investment, and security, among other issues. There is the issue of the Mexican train in competition with the Panama Canal. The Panamanian Presidency announced that Mulino will be received by Sheinbaum next Wednesday at the National Palace.  According to what was announced at the meeting, they will address issues such as “trade, investment, agricultural development, security, customs and cooperation” between both countries. 


Both governments plan to sign new bilateral agreements and analyze Panama’s possible accession to an aerospace agreement for Latin America and the Caribbean, according to official information.  The Panamanian president’s agenda includes a meeting with representatives of 23 Mexican companies interested in expanding their operations in Panama or establishing themselves in the country for the first time, attracted by its logistical advantages and its service platform for accessing other markets in the region, an official letter indicated. 


Mulino “highlighted the importance of the relationship between Mexico and Panama, nations between which there are significant business investments,” the Panamanian Presidency statement said. The Panamanian delegation will be composed of the Foreign Minister, Javier Martínez Acha; the Ministers of Commerce and Industries, Julio Moltó; of Agricultural Development, Roberto Linares; and for Canal Affairs, José Ramón Icaza; as well as the Secretary of Economic Affairs and Competitiveness, Kristelle Getzler.  Official sources told the media that Foreign Minister Martínez-Acha was traveling to Mexico Monday as an advance team for President Mulino’s visit.
