Cobre Panamá in Donoso: MICI Authorizes Removal and Export of Material from the Mine

Why is this decision being made? MICI authorized Minera Panamá to process and export material from Cobre Panamá to mitigate environmental risks and as a safety approach.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industries (MICI) authorized the removal, processing and export of the material stored at the Cobre Panamá mine, located in Donoso.  The measure was formalized this Tuesday through Resolution No. 27, which instructs Minera Panamá to implement:

  • Mineral processing
  • Export
  • Marketing

All as part of the mine’s Safe Management and Preservation Plan.  According to the MICI, the action seeks to:

  • Reduce environmental risks
  • Mitigate hazardous conditions of stored material
  • Ensure safe management of existing resources

The plan includes measures to avoid negative impacts resulting from prolonged storage of the ore, in the current context of the mine.
