Severe Deterioration of the Main Road Caused by the Rains of the Last Few Weeks in Bocas del Toro
Land connectivity for the community of Quebrada Plátano, in the township of Cauchero, district of Almirante, faces a risk scenario after the severe deterioration of the main road caused by the rains of the last few weeks. The damage to the road threatens to isolate resident families and affect local productive activity, especially the transport of bananas and other agricultural products that depend on vehicular access to distribution centers. Residents of the area expressed concern about the potential consequences of a complete road collapse. Ramón Martínez, a resident of the community, warned that the situation could compromise both the supply of goods and emergency medical care.

“If the road deteriorates completely, it will be difficult to receive products, move agricultural production, or transport a sick person,” he said. The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) reported that heavy machinery has already been deployed to the affected area and that technical inspections are currently underway to determine the necessary repairs. According to the ministry, the repair work could begin in the coming days. Authorities indicated that the most critical point is located near the community school, where preventative signs have been installed to reduce risks as work begins. According to preliminary estimates, the works could last for approximately two weeks, although the time will depend on the weather and the terrain conditions. The Ministry of Public Works reiterated its call for drivers to proceed with caution in the area while actions are being taken to restore connectivity to this productive zone in the province of Bocas del Toro.
