A Balcony Collapses in the City of Colón Panama
One of the balconies of house No. 7087, located on 7th Street, Central Avenue in the city of Colón, partially collapsed, which shows the advanced state of deterioration of this property. Its residents were included in a relocation plan to the Altos de Los Lagos II Phase project, in the Cristóbal Este district. Javier Blas, an official from the Ministry of Housing and Territorial Planning (Miviot), reported that the affected structure shows significant wear and tear.
“It is a building that is already quite deteriorated, as you can see,” he noted during the preliminary inspection. Following the collapse, immediate actions were activated, including a technical evaluation, in coordination with the infrastructure team. Officials indicated that the relevant authorities in Panama will be notified for the management of contingency measures. The building is currently home to 31 families, who are waiting for concrete actions and relocation, as they are included in the relocation plans.
