Panama’s Prison is Known as La Joya: Firearms and Drugs Along With Technological Equipment Were Seized from Prisoners

The seizure was part of Operation Armageddon, which took place in the prison, in addition to other actions in different parts of the country.

Four firearms, various illicit substances, as well as technological equipment were seized inside the La Joya Penitentiary Center, the National Police reported.  According to the police force, these seizures are the result of Operation Armageddon carried out in the aforementioned center and in different parts of the country. 


In addition, packs of cigarettes, individual cigars, lighters, cell phones, cell phone chargers, and perfume bottles were seized.  “These police actions took place within the framework of Operation Odysseus, which aims to guarantee order, social peace and combat illicit activities,” the National Police highlighted.  The National Police reported carrying out various operational actions in different parts of the 24 de Diciembre district, reinforcing the police presence with crime prevention. 


Continuing with Operation Odysseus in the township of Río Abajo, a person was apprehended after locating a pistol-type firearm, a magazine, ammunition and a plastic bag with a suspected illicit substance.  In a video posted on social media, Major Gustavo Serrano stated that during the last few hours, as Operation Odysseus continued, 74 checkpoints were maintained, 8,460 people were checked, and raids resulted in 15 people being arrested (13 by warrant and two by flagrant offenses), as well as the recovery of weapons, ammunition, and illicit substances.
