David District Representative Turns Himself in for Embezzlement Investigation
Jorge Montenegro Vallarino was re-elected to the position in the last elections as representative of David in Chiriqui. The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office links the official, a member of the PRD, to an alleged irregular handling of public funds.
On Christmas Eve, the representative of the David district, Jorge Montenegro Vallarino, surrendered to the National Police as part of an investigation for the alleged crime of aggravated embezzlement. The official, a member of the PRD, was wanted by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office , which had issued an arrest and detention order as part of the process against him. His surrender took place this Tuesday, December 23, while legal proceedings related to the handling of public funds continue.
According to the investigation, the events under investigation allegedly occurred at the David Community Board, where a possible misuse of resources is indicated during the period between 2019 and 2024. The case is now in the hands of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which will have to determine the corresponding responsibilities and define the next legal actions in a process that keeps the focus on the administration of funds at the local level.
