Panama’s Kadir Barría Dazzles the Crowds and Attracts Attention from the First Team

The young Panamanian striker Kadir Barría has become a true gem of national football thanks to his outstanding performance with the Under-20 team and with the first team of Botafogo.  Last Tuesday, November 18th, at the Nilton Santos stadium, Barría scored two goals in Botafogo’s 3-2 victory over Sport, in matchday 34 of the Brasileirão. At just 18 years old, the striker became the star of the match and etched his name in the memory of the Botafogo fans.  “It was very exciting. I always dreamed of this moment, ever since Panama. When I saw it was Botafogo, the Libertadores Cup, the Brazilian Championship in 2024, I always dreamed of this, of giving Botafogo the victory and helping the team,” Kadir said, speaking fluent Portuguese, in an interview on Amazon Prime Video. 

“I’m grateful to the Under-20 coach, Professor Ancelotti, who always gives me opportunities, talks to me, and tells me I’m ready for the game. I also thank God; without Him I wouldn’t be here, and my family, who are in Panama and here supporting me every day. I dedicate this goal to them,” he added.  The striker, who joined the club in 2024, made his debut this year in the Under-20 category, but his growth has been so remarkable that he is already starting to attract attention from the first team. In his interview, Barría also revealed one of his biggest influences within the club.  “I thought of Igor Jesus when I scored my first goal. I learned a lot from him. Before every match, I always watch his plays; he’s a great example for me. Even though he left Botafogo, I still admire him,” he said.
