Panama’s Heavy Rains Affect the Operation of Four Water Plants
The IDAAN technical team is constantly monitoring river conditions to restore production to 100% as soon as possible.

The heavy rains recorded in recent hours have caused damage to several water treatment plants in the country, according to the National Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers (IDAAN). In Herrera province, the Roberto Reyna water treatment plant reduced its production due to the flooding of the La Villa River, in an effort to protect the pumping equipment. As a result, low pressures could be experienced in high-altitude areas far from the distribution network.
The IDAAN technical team is constantly monitoring river conditions to restore production to 100% as soon as possible. Meanwhile, in the Chepo district, the water treatment plant is currently operating at 50% capacity due to the flooding of the Mamoní River. This has caused an irregular supply in high-altitude areas isolated from the network. In Bocas del Toro province, the rains also forced the temporary suspension of operations at the Guabito and Almirante water treatment plants. Authorities indicated that experts continue to monitor river flows to resume operations as soon as conditions permit.
