Panama “Invasion” movie wins award in Spain
INVASION , the Panama film directed by Abner Benaim picked up the Biznaga de Plata, Audience Award.
at the 18th Malaga Film Festival, in the south of Spain, which ended Sunday, April 26.
The film about the 1989 US military invasion with the aim of over throwing military dictator Manuel Antonio Noriega, also won the Young Jury Prize Documentary at the University of Málaga.
Invasion won the Best Director award at the Miami International Film Festival
At the International Film Festival of Panama, where Invasion had its world premiere in 2014, it picked up two awards for Best Documentary and the Audience Award for Best Film of Central America and the Caribbean.
It has also been part of programming for the South by Southwest Festival; True / False Festival in Missouri; at the SXSW Film Music Interactive, Austin (Texas); and the Cartagena Film Festival (Colombia).
For the second version of the Platinum Awards, which will be held in July in Marbella (Spain), Invasion has been nominated for Best Documentary, while another national feature, Stories of the Canal , produced by Mangrove Films and Hypatia Films, has received 4 nominations : Best Picture;Best Director (Carolina Borrero, Luis Franco Brantley, Abner Benaím, Mon Pinky and Pituka Ortega-Heilbron), Best Male Performance (Iván González) and Best Female Performance (Hanna Schobitz).
