Azul, Sky, and Copa top Latin America punctuality  rankings

Jeremy Bowen, CEO of Cirium, a London-based aviation consultancy that measures the punctuality of the world’s airlines and airports, argues that when the air travel recovery finally came last year, the industry, including airlines, airports, and navigation providers did not have the capacity to meet the high demand that was unleashed.

Bowen said that despite that context, many airlines stood out as the most punctual. The measurement, which takes into account flights that arrived within 15 minutes of the scheduled time, determined that in the case of Latin America, the most punctual airline in 2022 was Azul, from Brazil, with an arrival rate on time of 88.93% in the 279,722 flights made. In second place is Sky, from Chile, with a punctuality of 88.74%, on 27,161 flights. In third place is Copa Airlines, from Panama, which obtained a punctual arrival index of 88.02% in 104,083 flights.

In 2021 Copa Airlines was chosen as “The most punctual airline in Latin America.”

In fourth place among the most punctual airlines in Latin America is Latam, with 86.31% punctuality in the 451,651 flights operated; followed by Avianca (Colombia) with fifth place, having 83.48% of on-time arrivals of 144,525 registered flights.

The first place in the world ranking was also taken by the Brazilian Azul, followed by Ana, from Japan in second place, and Jal also from Japan.

The most punctual airport in the world in 2022 was Haneda, Tokyo, with 90.33% on-time departures out of a total of 373,264 flights.
