‘Free Guy’ retains top spot for movie-goers

Twentieth Century sci-fi comedy “Free Guy” retained No. 1 in theaters in the United States and Canada on Sunday with an estimated $18.8 million gross, reported industry observer Exhibitor Relations.

The film, whose release was delayed a year by the Covid-19 pandemic, is a story starring Ryan Reynolds in the role of a bank teller who discovers, like Jim Carrey’s character in “The Truman Show ”, Who is a character in a huge video game and must save his friends from being eliminated.

The film fell below  $28 million last weekend, its premiere, but analysts estimate that its result was impressive, as the pandemic continues to weigh on the industry and tropical storm Henri drives viewers away from the Northeastern United States of cinemas.

So far, its global gross is $ 112 million.

In second place, with  $13 million between Friday and Sunday, is Paramount’s new children’s film “Paw Patrol: The Movie”

In third place was the Disney family adventure film “Jungle Cruise”, with $6.2 million.
