OPINION: Time to move on smart lockdown  easing

Once the contagion is contained, as the authorities have successfully achieved, the country must begin to move to the next phase, without delay. It is unsustainable that Panama quarantines its population until the vaccine’s disappearance. It is a fallacy that the country has to choose between public health and the economy. Progress can be made on both fronts if there is the right knowledge and strategy.

We have to learn to live with the virus and that must be the focus of the authorities. The time to keep the population paralyzed and subjected to an incomparable confinement has passed, just as the model that segments freedom by day, gender and ID number has expired. The reopening plan must be transparent and smart. Instead of continuing to produce endless and absurd regulations –LA PRENSA, May 19
