The servility of Panama’s comptroller

What about the Comptroller General of the Republic? Since he took office, Gerardo Solís has been questioned because the belligerence of the Comptroller’s Office has been completely neutralized, to the point that these protests have not lacked those who ask for his immediate resignation.

The Comptroller’s Office is an entity that responds directly to the National Assembly and, contrary to more combative leaderships that once came out in defense of the Nation’s heritage, Solís remains in the shadows, and when he has had to render accounts, he has been a warm defender of those who are most questioned.

The deputies, who in the past saw their spurious income diminished by the actions of the Comptroller’s Office, this time took special care to choose someone who would not question them, who would not audit them, who would allow them to do and undo as they pleased, protected by the silence, complacency and complicity of a castrated Comptroller, whose head does not answer to the media or society. He only does it to his bosses, the deputies. It’s a shame, because the Comptroller’s Office is one of those few entities equipped with a mallet, but Solís threw it out a long time ago. He made it an expression of servility and submission.- LA PRENSA, Jul. 26.
