OPINION: Education shortchanged but not elections

 

The weight of debts, lack of income, and waste are beginning to be felt in next year’s state budget. There are sectors that will be deprived of sufficient resources for their needs, such as education. Its calculation of operation and investment – ​​​​which includes food programs for students but the Ministry of Education will receive $1,84 billion, 22.5% less than requested. The next one will be a pre-election year and we will surely see state resources that will be destined for re-election purposes. Nothing new, really, but it is necessary to point out that the problems caused by the pandemic are nowhere near being solved and fiscal prudence is not, by far, a strength of this government, much less on the eve of an election in which the future is at stake.
