Plans moving ahead for general strike in Panama

Protests against the omnibus 9 in 1 law continue in pockets across the country and organizers are making plans for another mass rally followed by a general strike.

Over 40 members of the Anti Integral del Pueblo (Ulip) demonstrated pn Thursday (June 24) in front of a branch of Coca Cola, in José Domingo Espinar, andearlier a larger group gathered to protest in front of Cable and Wireless on Via España

 

The protesters carrying red flags and distributed leaflets in the streets. The traffic was not affected, as demonstrators remained on the sidewalk..

Flyers said that there would be a permanent campaign until the"chorizo" (sausage) law wasrepealed and tsaid the protestors will join the national march that will take place on Tuesday June 29in conjunction with the National Council of Organized Workers.

Ulip members reiterated that in early July there will be a general strike, which will be organized acrossthe country.

The Ulip is a social group formed by labor organizations, teachers’ unions, farmers indigenous groups. student organizations, Workers and professionals.
