Former president off the hook on some corruption charges

A criminal court judge has dismissed some of the outstanding charges of money laundering and corruption against former President Ernesto Pérez Balladares, but the the bulk of charges still remain.

Judge Georgina Tuñón dismissed charges being investigated by prosecutor Yolanda Austin but charges under investigation by prosecutor José Ayú Prado are still pending.
Balladares remains under orders not to leave the country, a precautionary measures filed against him when he was released from house arrest.
Balladares faces charges that he owned a stake in shell companies receiving profits from gambling companies that operated in Panama under licenses that he granted while in office says La Prensa.
