Hidden US bunker to be used for crisis situations.

The government of Panama is investing  more than $500,000 to refurbish  a former hidden bunker used by the US Southern Command, before the Canal was handed back to Panama.

The news was given to media  on Monday by Minister of the Presidency, Jimmy Papadimitriu, during a tour of the  tunnel burrowed in Ancon Hill.

Papadimitriu said that the  area will be used to handle crisis situations, such as natural disasters.

The spending of the money on what was believed to be a secret project, has received criticism from a number of sources.
