13dead,19 seriously hurt in Panama highway crash
Another multi-vehicle crash on the Trans Panama highway near Santiago, killed a 13 people and seriously injured 19 on Monday afternoon. (October 25).
The dead included a minor . 19 were seriously injured.
According to early reports the accident was caused when the driver of a tractor trailer, heading for Cocle, fell asleep at the wheel and crashed head on into the 9B-392 bus traveling from Panama to Santiago.
Two sedans a Mazda 323 and a Sentra were also involved. Preliminary statements from the Tranport Authjority (ATTT) say that the truck first struck a sedan and then careered across to the opposite lane hitting another sedan and the bus.
The last major accident that killed 24, occurred near Pacora when a truck hit a bus and two other vehicles. Last weekend, a memorial service was held for 18 passengers burned to death in a bus at La Cresta, Panama.
