New roadway to San Felipe open
The four lanes of Panama’s $52 million dollar Cintera Costera extension were opened on Sunday (November 14) but work on the project will continue until March of next year.
Still to come are an underground parking lot, a multi-purpose pier, and new commercial facilities.
Signposting of the roadway will be completed in a few days: "Now, we just need to get people accustomed to the streets that have changed directions," said Minister of Public Works, Federico Suárez.
The road will give better access to Casco Viejo, but residents are concerned about the next phase which could include a roadway around the old city, leading to the possible loss of its World Heritage designation.
