Water crisis easing, but emergency supplies still being trucked in
Panama’s 38-day water crisis is easing with the turbidity level in Lake Alajuela falling and the two water treatment plants in Chilbre up to 78 percent of capacity.
In several communities, located in high areas of the capital, such as Bethania and Villa Lucre, delivery of water via household taps was resumed on Thursday night, January 9 , according to a government press release.
Potable water is being delivered by tanker trucks to eight locations points in San Miguelito, Juan Diaz, Tocumen, San Joaquin, Concepcion, Juan Diaz and Las Mañanitas.
Over the weekend bottled water will also be distributed.
Minister for Canal Affairs Romulo Roux, who heads the Interagency Commission seeking alternatives to drinking water shortages, the government has distributed more than half a million bottles of water.
