After the lord mayors show
Days after Clayton residents were celebrating the redefining of the boundaries of the Parque Nacional Camino de Cruces (PNCC) the Supreme Court has given the go ahead for several developments in the area.
After a seven year discussion over redefining the boundaries, it was announced that the Parque will be expanded by by 528 hectares.
The move got the thumbs up from the Association of Owners and Residents of Clayton, who feared the land was going to fall into the hands of developers.
But on Friday February Supreme Court gave the green light to the development of several projects in Clayton. Judges Víctor Benavides, Alejandro Moncada Luna and Winston Spadafora upheld zoning changes made by the Ministry of Housing in 2000 and rejected arguments filed by the Alliance for Conservation and Development.
Said Susana Serracín, a lawyer for the alliance: "Again, the interest of a few and the desire for excessive profit is put before a healthy environment" She said the court's decision is unfortunate and opens the door to increased encroachment on green areas.
