Tear gas used to clear Panama traffic blockage

Police used tear gas on drivers of Diablos Rojos who brought chaos to the Via Transistmica at San Isidro in San Miguelito on Friday June 10.

They had blocked the highway to protest the high price of diesel fuel and demanded that the government increase subsidies to prevent them asking for an increase in fares.

 Traffic jams of trucks, cars and Metro buses were  soon backed up for miles. {jathumbnail off}

The  protestin drivers were from the routes Torrijos Carter, Santa Librada, El Valle, San Vicente and Veranillo.

The protest ended after ATTT officials agreed to meet with the drivers on Friday afternoon.

After the meeting, service  returned to normal and a further meeting was scheduled for Monday, but transportistas on 38 routes in the capital are threatening to declare a strike starting  Tuesday.
