A noted Panamanian historian said on Thursday, June 16, that the a movement in Chorrillo supporting the third phase of the Cinta Costera is not genuine.
Ana Elena Porras suspects that it is a front created by the government to counteract the growing movement opposing the extension, includes 10 citizen organizations and civil rights groups.
Porras noted that the group named the Committee for Dignity and Advancement of Chorrillo all wore white sweaters with logos, giving the impression that they were government officials.
Porras stressed he opposition to the construction of a landfill and a highway around the Old City because she believes that Panama would lose its historical heritage designation humanity and the project would affect tourism.
She believed that the original proposal for the construction of a tunnel under the heritage site was the way to go.
