Traffic fines can be paid by instalments
Panama’s traffic infringers mostly speedsters, cell phone users and no-seat-belt drivers owe over $44 million in unpaid fines.
The Transit Authority (ATTT) is endeavoring to collect from delinquent non-paying offenders by allowing them to make a payment “arrangement”. But there has to be a minimum of 30% on the table. With somepublic transport drivers found with upaid fines of well over $1000, that might still be a problem.
The new rules kicked in on Wednesday, July 13.
An ATTT most man spokesman said most of the penalties are for speeding, talking on a cellphone and driving without a seat belt, sometimes all three.
