Musical outreach program for young Panama children
Scores of young Panamanian students got a Children’s Guide to Music on Monday morning, July 25, courtesy of a largely unheralded group dedicated to broadening cultural horizons in the Isthmus.
The event was a practical curtain raiser to a Tchaikovsky Concert, on Wednesday evening, when renowned Canadian pianist Alexander Panizza, was scheduled to play the Russian composer's Piano Concert No 1 in B flat minor, at the Teatro Nacional in Casco Viejo.
The program included Tchaikovsky's fourth symphony played by Panama’s national symphony orchestra under the direction of Jorge Ledezma Bradley.
The student event was organized by Frank Castagnet, Cultural Director of the France and Panama Union now allied with the Danilo Perez Foundation. It received the backing of The French Embassy. INAAC and TVN.
The morning program included a performance by young musical students, conducted by Brani Aubert, who is visiting from France and for two months has been teaching young children at a school in El Chorillo.
In the afternoon the musical outreach program continued at USMA (Universidad Santa Maria La Antigua)
with a seminar conducted by Sorbonne trained musicologist Dr Cynthia Cristia, exploring the relationship between music and visual art.
