Eelectoral Tribunal repeats no to Molirena-CD merger
Panama’s Electoral Tribunal (TE) has reiterated its decision to disallow the merger of the Molirena party with the ruling Democratic Change party (CD).
The merger was originally passed at a Molirena party convention, but the TE said that the vote should have been a secret ballot.
The presiding judge of the TE, Gerardo Solis, said no reason was found for the request of Molirena president Sergio González Ruiz, who demanded the adoption of the merger.
Gisela Chung, founder of Molirena and opposed to the merger, said the appeal "was a drowningkick”.
Gonzalez Ruiz said, "We can have another convention and vote back what we want”
