Panama gets six pre-Christmas quakes in four days

PANAMA  has been shaken by   six pre-Christmas earthquakes this week with the latest A 4.5 tremor on the Richter scale on Wednesday December 21.

The quake was recorded at 11:36 am local time with  the Pacific Ocean epicenter at coordinates 7.41 degrees 82.33 degrees north and west, with a depth of 10 kilometers.The nearest towns to the epicenter are in Puerto Armuelles and Alanje Baru, both in the western province of Chiriqui, bordering Costa Rica.

The first quake was on Sunday, December 18, at 8: 47 am local time and registered  4.6 on the Richter scale, with an epicenter 100 kilometers southeast of the island of Coiba, in the Pacific, and a depth of 4 kilometers. The same day there was another tremor, at 3:14 pm local time, with magnitude 4.7 on the Richter scale, depth of 5 km and epicenter 150 kilometers southwest of the island of Coiba. Anothrer temor was registered th same day  at  6:14 pm, with a magnitude of 4 on the Richter scale, off the coast of Jaque in the eastern province of Darien border with Colombia, at a depth of 10 kilometers in the Pacific. 

On Monday, at 8:34 pm Tuesday another earthquake in the Pacific, 30 miles west of the Coiba island was registered, with a magnitude of 4.2 on the Richter scale and a depth of 17.4 kilometers. 

On Tuesday at 2:33 am local time there was another tremor of 4.7 on the Richter scale in the Gulf of Panama, offshore of Jaque.
